RAR Açúcar was born in 1962 out of the ambition to build a technologically advanced sugar refinery to replace the small, outdated refineries that were previously the norm in the north of Portugal. With the acquisition of Refinaria Angola in1973, the company gained a market share of approximately 45%. Today, with a production capacity in excess of 240.000 tonnes/year, RAR Açúcar enters the 21st century with the ambition to be the leading company in the Iberian market with innovative products and services, and a total focus on quality.
