The Company
RAR Açúcar was born in 1962 out of the ambition to build a technologically advanced sugar refinery to replace the small, outdated refineries that were previously the norm in the north of Portugal.

With the acquisition of Refinaria Angola in 1973, the company gained a market share of approximately 45%.

Today, with a production capacity in excess of 240.000 tonnes/year, RAR Açúcar enters the 21st century with the ambition to be the leading company in the Iberian market with innovative products and services, and a total focus on quality.

RAR Açúcar is commited to ensure the quality and food safety of its products, taking responsability for pollution prevention and continuous improvement of its Management System. Therefor, RAR Açúcar's Quality, Food Safety and Environmental Management Systems are certified to standards ISO 9001:2008, ISO 22000:2005 and ISO 14001:2004, respectively. It was the first Iberian company of the sector to obtain the International Food Standard (IFS) certification.
